Comanche County Memorial Hospital is holding a healthcare fair later this month. It’s to show people the types of jobs available in the medical field.

Heather Love, the administrative director for quality, safety, risk, and education at CCMH, said the theme is “the operation game” because they want to help people, who know they want to work in the medical field but don’t know what they want to do.

“We’re going to have different booths set up,” she said. “For example, we’ll have a radiology booth, a nursing booth, an EMS booth, a lab, all different areas of the hospital.”

Love said the people running the booths will let people know what types of jobs are available in that specific area.

“And then we’ll also have colleges and school counselors there,” she said. “For example, OU, OCCC, SWOSU, Great Plains Technology, Cameron University, and they will be able to sit down with people and kinda help map out the directions they need to take to get those careers.”

Love said the healthcare system takes a whole team of people in different fields such as accounting, engineering, and dietary.

“People automatically think of nurses and physicians, but we have the radiology team that are doing all the x-rays, the lab team that’s doing all the blood work, the pharmacy team that gives all the medications and prescribes those correctly,” she said. “So, it takes a village.”

Because it’s happening at the simulation center, they’ll also get to look at the mannequins and do some explorations with different careers.

“If they find out it’s not for them, no biggie,” Love said. “Like you said, it’s free to the public and we want people to come in and get the information they need.”

The healthcare fair is happening from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Aug. 30, at CCMH’s simulation center. Follow the signs and use the center’s entrance on the northwest side of the hospital.
